Portadeza directs its strategy towards the client with the aim of becoming more competitive

  • The company implanted the service “Porta a Punto” that adjusts the volume production and pace of delivery.
  • The water based stain finishes and the series Venice and Padua offer designs in accordance with the decor trends.

Lalín, June 10 2009 Portadeza is the first company in the sector that offers its customers the “Porta a Punto” service, which allows you to adjust the volume production and pace of delivery to the demand. In this way, added value is generated for the customers thanks to the speed of the service, reduction of stocks and cost optimization.

Portadeza is the only company in the sector that, by establishing a system without intermediate stocks, offers this service to customers. Currently, this is already implanted in the 70 percent of the distributors, reducing the complexity and time in order management, so that all the chain value is benefited.

In the past six years, Portadeza has made an investment of more than 2.6 million euros in R&D+i. "Our goal is to overcome the stage of Portadeza as a manufacturer of wooden doors and become the company of reference for interior closing solutions. In addition, we believe that our innovative nature will allow us to overcome with better guarantees this crisis," said Jose Blanco, Portadeza’s Managing Director.

Vita collection: stained finishes, Venice & Padua

In the product area, innovation focuses on the new Vita Collection series, composed of water based stained doors and the Venice and Padua series. The water based stain enhances the natural beauty of the wood and adapt to the latest trends in decor. The Venice and Padua doors combine wood finishes with laminated or tempered (high-security) glass for which the company has a wide range of designs.

In addition to all this, Portadeza enters the Spanish market offer¡ng a solution in the field of accessibility and space saving, the swinging sliding opening system (right and left hand opening). This system is recommended for people with reduced mobility, since the opening is always on the basis of the sense of forward advance. In addition, it can save up to 40 per cent in space without the need for special installation work.

Customer focus, a key factor

To meet the customers demands, in the year 2005 Portadeza began the introduction of Lean Manufacturing. After four years working with this system, the company has succeeded in developing new services and new product lines that are an added value for customers when facing competitors.

The Lean is a constant search for the optimization of operations and production times as a system of cost reduction and competitive improvement. Sectors of reference in the galician economy, such as the automotive sector, are using this method in order to make their production processes profitable.

In the year 2008 Portadeza exceeded a 22 million euro turnover, with a workforce of 233 people and were manufacturing nearly 1,000 units a day.
